YES!Delft Labs adds space for technological startups and growers

The arrival of YES!Delft Labs gives Delft University of Technology's Technopolis Science Park an additional 2,500m2 office space and 900m2 laboratory space for innovative startups and growing companies. Zuid-Holland province helped to finance the project.

Delft University of Technology is offering technological and industrial biotech businesses the opportunity for further development. YES!Delft Labs is now officially open.

As well as communal lab facilities like an autoclave, freezing machine and weighing equipment, YES!Delft Labs provides top-class office and laboratory space.

The University constructed YES!Delft Labs for a total cost of € 12 million, with financial support from the European Union (€ 1.6 million), Delft municipality (€ 1 million) and Zuid-Holland province (€ 500,000).

Growth of startup businesses

Paul Althuis, director of Delft University's Valorisation Centre: “Expansion with YES!Delft Labs was essential to deal with the growth in startup companies. For Delft University itself this means a huge boost to business at our Science Park Technopolis.”

Since last spring a large number of companies have already settled into the new building, which offers 5,500m2 gross floor space. With 70% of its laboratory space already rented, the facility is apparently a good answer to the need for lab space among technological startups.

Boost to the region

Adri Bom-Lemstra, Zuid-Holland regional minister: “This building helps safeguard the future of innovative and technological startups and growing businesses in the region. The great thing for starters in the biotechnology sector is that YES!Delft also provides lab facilities, some of which are communal.” Alderman Ferrie Förster: “Delft's ambition is to double its knowledge economy by 2030. As a municipality we are not alone in facing this challenge: we are addressing it as a region. Delft is in any case the innovative motor of the regional economy. With the opening of YES!Delft Labs we are taking an incredibly important step.
