Implementation agenda 'Samen verder Fietsen' launched at national road cycling championships
Mr Floor Vermeulen, Regional Minister for traffic and transport, presented the 'Samen verder Fietsen’ (Cycling on Together) implementation agenda at the national road cycling championships on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee on Saturday 25 June 2016. The programme stems from the regional planning document Fietsplan 2016-2025 and includes specific assignments for the province and its partners in the coming years. "Zuid-Holland aims to be the most accessible province for cyclists. Our ambition is to have a better cycling network, innovative bike paths and good links with other forms of transport," said Mr Vermeulen.
The plans in the 'implementation agenda' are not hard and fast. Some assignments may be abandoned or others added, on condition they comply with the targets in the Fietsplan drawn up by the Provincial Council.
Cycling Plan 2015-2026
The Fietsplan document sets out choices on the province's commitment to bicycling for the period 2016 to 2025. The plan gives priority to establishing the best possible cycle networks, good links between cycling, public transport, car and walking, and innovative, energy-neutral cycle paths. The document was drawn up in consultation with other regional authorities, interest groups, knowledge institutions, businesses and residents. The 'Meer informatie' link gives illustrated information on the implementation of the Fietsplan 2015-2026.
At the national championships Mr Vermeulen presented Alderman Marnix Trouwborst of Goeree-Overflakkee with a sculpture of a racing cyclist in the Province's stand located on 'sustainability square'. The sculpture symbolises the province's ambition to become the most accessible province in the country for cyclists.
