2017 is an important year for the future of innovation in Europe and preparations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework have started, part of which is the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. At the same time, it is an opportunity to reflect on how we can innovate more intelligently by making better use of available knowledge and resources. On the verticals, the debates must focus on concrete solutions addressing major challenges for which we need more innovations than ever.

Zuid-Holland: Innovation without Boundaries

Zuid-Holland has a solid regional innovation ecosystem and we work intensively together with Greenport West Holland, Academic Medical Center Leiden and the city of Leiden in the Economic Board Zuid-Holland to continously improve our ecosystem. We provide a real life testing ground to develop solutions to solve major European challenges, such as "Feeding and Greening the Megacities" and "Regenerative Medicine" by combining regional strenghts in cross sectoral, crossfunding and crossborder cooperation.

On Europe’s societal challenge "Feeding and Greening the Megacities" Zuid-Holland has solutions, such as adequate and healthy nutrition for a growing world population. We also provide huge opportunities to reduce the use of raw materials and emissions. More intensive triple or even quadruple helix cooperation with European partners is key for the sector to realize its full potential.

On Europe’s societal challenge on rapidly increasing chronic diseases "Regenerative Medicine" aims to restore degenerated, diseased, or damaged tissues and organs, thereby increasing vital functioning and reducing the cost of healthcare. Our aim is to broaden our platform and include European partners in order to work together on the development of new, promising medicines and therapies. This event provides an unique window of opportunity for Zuid-Holland to connect regional objectives to the future direction of EU growth policy, especially in relation to regional innovation and growth.
