King’s Commissioner video keynote speech at annual China Langfang International Trade Fair
The global pandemic of coronavirus highly restricted international travelling, but it cannot stop international cooperation. Province of Zuid-Holland still kept close coordination with Chinese sister province Hebei in the last a few months. When the virus heavily broke out in China in February, King’s Commissioner Jaap Smit sent a letter to Xu Qin, Governor of Hebei to express the sincerest sympathy from the Netherlands. In order to support Zuid-Holland, Hebei Red Cross delivered a few boxes surgical masks and protection suits to The Hague recently.
Apart from supporting each other in the current public health emergency, business exchanges and further cooperation between two provinces are also being discussed intensively. One of the highlight moments among all the exchange works is the video speech of Jaap Smit addressed in the opening of this year’s Langfang International Trade Fair on 18 May.
Langfang International Trade Fair is the major annual international business event jointly organized by Hebei Provincial Government and Chinese Ministry of Commerce. Jaap Smit was invited to address a keynote speech at the opening session of the fair. The other keynote speakers are: Governor Xu Qin, Wang Shouwen, Chinese Vice-minister Commerce, Chen Bo, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, and Robert Aspell, President of Cargill Asia Pacific.
At his speech, Jaap Smit first thanked the medical supplies from Hebei, and called on the cooperation among the international community is the only right choice to fight the situation. He also reviewed the previous cooperation and concrete business achievements between Zuid-Holland and Hebei, and promoted the world class research institutes, universities, ports, industry, agri- and horticulture sector in Zuid-Holland. The next five years cooperation agreement between two provinces is expected to be renewed this year.
At the virtual pavilion of the fair, Hebei reserved a panel to display general info of Zuid-Holland. Innovationquarter contributed a video about invest to Zuid-Holland. Top companies in the horticultural sector Hoogendoorn, RijkZwaan and Koppert presented the Dutch concept of feeding and greening meagecity. The virtual booth can be found here.
