Province and Zuid-Holland companies trade mission to Italy
From 20 until 23 June, the King's Commissioner and Regional Ministers Adri Bom-Lemstra and Rik Janssen will accompany the Dutch trade mission to Italy, on the fringe of the official state visit by King William Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Foreign Trade Minister Ploumen.
A score of Zuid-Holland companies will join them; they are active in the shipbuilding, water and delta technology, and Greenport industries. Rotterdam, the Drechtsteden region, and knowledge institute Deltares from Delft will actively participate in this mission as well.
By participating in the economic mission, the province of Zuid-Holland aims to present itself as an active region in the field of innovative agriculture and horticulture, water innovation, and as a guiding region in transition issues on circular economy. In addition, administrative links with the Lombardy region will continue to be tightened, the province in the Milan region that acts as the economic engine of Italy and shares many similarities with Zuid-Holland.
To this end, Commissioner Smit and president Maroni of Lombardy will sign a cooperation agreement in the field of innovation and sustainability on Friday 23 June. Zuid-Holland and Lombardy have collaborated in various fields and in European projects since the World Expo 2015.
Regional Minister Rik Janssen will, among other, make a keynote speech at the international Water Seminar in Rome. He will speak partly as steering group member of the European Innovation Platform on the role of European regional "triple helix"-cooperation (government, industry, research institutions) and on network control in water programmes.
Ever since the International Water Day during the World Expo 2015 in Milan, meetings between representatives of the Lombardy regional government and representatives of the province, companies and knowledge institutions in the water sector have taken place. During these meetings, knowledge on water innovation, climate, and energy has been exchanged. These visits have resulted in a closer cooperation between the province of Zuid-Holland, regional authorities in Italy, and the representatives of companies and knowledge institutions in the field of water.
Regional Minister Adri Bom-Lemstra will work with the Zuid-Holland horticultural delegation to actively take part in workshops of the 'Università delle Scienze Gastronomiche', an international knowledge and research centre fully focused on sustainable agriculture. She will also speak with the Italian regional minister of Agriculture Fava of Lombardy about the opportunities for cooperation and the solutions that Zuid-Holland can offer the world based on its the concept of 'feeding and greening mega-cities'.
