New footpath and cycle track network on Goeree-Overflakkee
The newly upgraded and expanded footpath network on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee was officially opened on 13 July 2016. The network adds another 375 kilometres to the existing 2,500 kilometres of footpaths in Zuid-Holland Province.
The network is set to expand by many more kilometres in the coming months. The Goeree-Overflakkee bicycle track network, which has been modernised and added to since 2006, was also officially opened on the same day. The priority in the modernisation project was to improve junctions, as well as the quality and safety of the cycling infrastructure.
The province plans to add to its recreational potential on land and water, making the natural environment and landscape more open and accessible. Zuid-Holland Province began to collaborate with the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee some four years ago to give the island an extra stimulus.
That partnership is targeted at boosting the regional economy, with a prime focus on recreation and tourism. The footpath and cycling route network forms a vital link in the chain.
The junction system makes it possible to map out footpath and cycling routes precisely, using either the digital planner or the footpath or cycling app. But paper maps are also available.
Download the footpath and cycling app free of charge from the app store or Google Playstore at: Wandelen123 and Fietsersbond Routeplanner.
