On 5 & 6 February 2019, Regional Minister Jeannette Baljeu attended the EU Industry Days 2019 in Brussels, where various policymakers discussed important industrial challenges such as sustainability, digitisation, investment and globalisation. Approximately 1,800 participants were present at these EU Industry Days, among which stakeholders representing industries, trade unions, national and regional authorities and civil society from all over Europe and beyond. Regional Minister Jeannette Baljeu was among the speakers during a panel discussion on the subject of a circular economy and how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could organise and ready themselves for such a circular economy.
The Province of Zuid-Holland and the joint environmental protection agency in Zuid-Holland (DCMR Milieudienst Rijnmond) want to provide more information to businesses and residents on the regulations concerning high-risk businesses, and on the compliance with them. They aim to have the relevant details of all high-risk businesses in Zuid-Holland available digitally in 2022. The initial results will become apparent even sooner.

On Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 January, the Province of Zuid-Holland hosted the Interreg North Sea Region programma. The purpose of the North Sea programme is to support, develop and boost the economic growth in the area around the North Sea.
Five of the 17 Dutch scale-ups that received Horizon 2020-funding, come from Zuid-Holland. This puts the province in first place as supplier of candidates. The selected SMEs have disruptive ideas for new products, services or processes and are ready to conquer the European market. The businesses receive 70% funding for the business plan, varying from 500,000 Euro to 2.5 million Euro, to implement their business plan within 12-24 months.
Earlier today, the Province of Zuid-Holland presented a Vision and an Implementation Plan aimed at strengthening nature and recreation. Because of these measures, the quality of life, the climate-resilience and the economic resilience are increasing.
The Province of Zuid-Holland wants to continue its passenger transport by water between Rotterdam and Dordrecht and within the Drechtsteden after 2021. Over the past few years, the Waterbus has already proved that it provides a service to travellers.
