Visit of Party Secretary Kunming to Zuid-Holland

Requested by Dutch Embassy in Beijing, Mr. Chen Lianyuan, the member of the Standing Committee of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and the Party Secretary of Kunming paid a visit to Province of Zuid-Holland in the afternoon of 26 October. On behalf of Vice-governor Ms. Bom-Lemstra, Mr. Wiebe Brandsma, Head of Economic and Social Department, received the delegation.

Kunming City and Yunnan Province, as the key location for flower business in China and around the world, are strategically important for Dutch flower growers and traders. Yunnan Province doesn't have any official friendship relations in the Netherlands. Because of the agri-horticulture business, the provincial government is aware that the Netherlands is the top of the world in this sector, and Zuid-Holland plays an important role in the Netherlands. Therefore the governmental exchange between Province of Zuid-Holland and Yunnan has intensified over the last few years.

During the courtesy call, both sides agreed to maintain governmental exchange, and are willing to stimulate the private business relations further via governmental support. The representative from Lansingerland Municipality, Mr. Bart Gijsbers discussed the possibility between Kunming and Lansingerland to establish the sister city agreement with the Party Secretary. Mr. Ibo Gülsen presented the full chain of Dutch flower management on behalf of Jansens' Overseas. He also showed the interest to participate in the National Botanical Museum project in Kunming.
